ANXIETY

There are two types of anxiety.  One is ongoing and continuous and probably outside the capabilities of a beginner to help.  The other is anxiety about a specific event or circumstance in the future – exam, dentist, long journey, meeting etc.  These anxieties are certainly capable of being reduced or eliminated by EFT.

The trick here is to identify the specific parts of the future event that are causing the anxiety.  For example with a dental appointment this could be the smell of the surgery, sound of the drill in the next room, fear of being hurt.  Tap on each aspect separately until the anxiety has dropped to below a three, then move on to the next one.  When you think you have dealt with all the aspects, close your eyes and imagine walking into the waiting room and being called in, smelling the surgery smell, sitting in the dentist chair etc.  See it as a movie and as soon as you feel any pangs of anxiety stop and tap on what upset you.

When you think that aspect has been dealt with, go back to the beginning of the movie and go through it again, stopping as soon as anything causes anxiety. This way you should be able to get rid of unwanted anxiety.

So the set up statements might be –

‘Even though I am afraid of going to the dentist next Tuesday, I choose to remain calm and peaceful at the thought of it.’

‘Even though I am anxious about my regular dental check up, I choose to remain calm and peaceful at the thought of it.’

‘Even though the sound of the dentist’s drill terrifies me, I deeply love and accept myself.’
