One of the most common fears people have is that of public speaking.  It’s surprising how many jobs require some degree of addressing groups of colleagues or making a presentation to potential customers.  Some people can tough their way through the shaking, dry mouth, sweating and stuttering, but really it is not necessary.  EFT can change all this.

 

The simplest approach is just to tap on fear of talking to …….. (remember be specific).  This short direct approach might be all that is needed.  But it is likely that the fear comes from some event that has happened in the past, probably from school days which is usually the first time we are called upon to stand in front of a group of people and talk.  Any embarrassment or failure then can sew the seeds of fear of similar situations, and the more often this fear is felt, the more intense it may become.

 

If you can identify a time in earlier life when you felt the same fear, you can tap on that event.  If other similar events pop into your memory, tap on those as well.

 

Here are some suggestions for setup phrases:

 

Even though I was so humiliated when my teacher laughed at me when I couldn’t read my project in front of the class, I deeply and completely accept myself. (be specific)

 

Even though I froze when I was in the Christmas play at school and had to be taken off the stage, I deeply love and accept myself.

 

Even though the thought of speaking in front of ……….. fills me with fear, I know that I have prepared properly and choose to be confident and fluent, and I deeply love and accept myself.

 

When you have done some tapping and feel that you have removed all or most of the fear, use the movie technique to check.  Close your eyes and imagine the whole process starting with sitting and waiting to speak, getting up and taking up position, glancing at the audience, checking your notes and beginning to speak.  Run through the sequence and as soon as you feel any anxiety, stop and tap on what you feel.  Start at the beginning again and continue until you feel any other anxieties, dealing with them one at a time.
